There are books I want to read, mean to read, have meant to read by this point in my life…but other books got in the way, they haven’t been published yet, or I’ve checked it out then returned it without cracking the the thing open. This is that list of books.
War and Peace by Tolstoy. I devoured Anna Karenina in undergrad, and own this title, but haven’t picked it up. A few years ago I told a librarian-friend that this book was on my TBR pile and she calculated how many pages I’d have to read each day to complete it in a year (3.3 pages). Answer: Number of pages April has read towards her goal of finishing War and Peace. “What is zero, Alex?”
Stitches by David Small. I heard him speak at ALA Annual Conference in 2010 or 2011, and was even given an ARC of his book. I desperately want to read this memoir. Have I picked it up? Nope…
Babylon’s Ark: the incredible wartime rescue of the Baghdad Zoo by Lawrence Anthony. My sister served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and has been telling me to read this since it was published in 2008. It rode around in my trunk for about 6 months. Didn’t even read the intro.
A book by Neil Gaiman. The Graveyard Book was superb and I tried American Gods but couldn’t finish it. I am so disappointed in myself! Someday I will pick up another of his novels, read it, and love it.
